Madeline Earle Stanton was born on June 9, 1898, in Canton, Massachusetts. After receiving her B.A. degree from Smith College in 1919, she was secretary to Agide Jacchia, conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra. Beginning in 1920, Stanton worked with Dr. Harvey Cushing at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston and later at the Yale School of Medicine.
